In round six of the Earl Cup the top two went head to head as holders Silksworth Pumas put down a marker with a 6-0 win over Roker Marine, the win lifted the Pumas top and extended their unbeaten record. Barnes Park moved up to third with a cracking 6-0 win at Dairy Lane A. The Dairy Lane B team had a better night beating Seaham Town 5-1, New Herrington hauled themselves off the foot of the table with a 5-1 win at Usworth.
The top two in division two both suffered setbacks, leaders North Biddick lost their unbeaten record as Pemberton ran out 5-1 winners, second placed Whitburn also lost at home 5-1 to Thompson Park, the latter move up to third. Hetton Workmen’s finally got to play at home after green issues as they beat Hylton Colliery 6-0. Ryhope notched their first win beating Washington 4-2 and South Hylton beat Houghton Town 6-0.
Seaham Town are the early Swan Cup leaders after a 6-0 away win against bottom of the table Usworth. Barnes Park’s 5-1 win at New Herrington lifted them into second place. Holders Silksworth Puma’s suffered back to back defeats this time 5-1 at home to Roker Marine.
In division two North Biddick beat Pemberton 5-1 to go top, South Hylton beat Hylton Colliery 5½-½ while Thompson Park beat Washington 5-1.
After round two in the Harold Howey three teams are still unbeaten, Dairy Lane B lead the way with a 4-0 home win over Marine B, Seaham Town A beat New Herrington A 4-0 and holders Barnes Park won a thriller at North Biddick 34-33. Dairy Lane A won another thriller at Marine A 31-30, there were wins for Hetton Workmen and South Hylton.
Sunderland B’s 4-0 win at Ryhope makes them the early pacesetters in division two, previous leaders Thompson Park lost 3-1 at Houghton Town. There were first wins of the season for Seaham Town B, Washington A and Sunderland A. The remaining game saw Washington B win 3-1 at Roker Park.
Due to the Sunderland Championship game round three of the Storey Bowl was moved to August 23.

Round three in the Grindon League saw Usworth make it three from three with a 4-1 win at South Hylton to open up a six point lead at the top. Whitburn beat Pemberton 3-2 and holders Silksworth Pumas bounced back with a 5-0 win over New Herrington. The other game saw Hylton Colliery beat North Biddick 3-2.
In the women’s SWBA league the all Barnes Park derby saw the A team run out 4-0 winners against the B Team, New Herrington opened their campaign up with a 4-0 win at Sunderland B.
The Durham County women’s Northern Trophy squad suffered a second loss, Durham were beaten 103-98 by Cumbria at Pelton Fell.

Durham’s Middleton Cup has been confirmed, there is a county debut for Eldon Groves Steve Slaughter and Darlington RA’s Carl Carson. Durham take on Yorkshire and will make a first visit to Walkington East End.

The north section of the county championships is well underway, the defending pairs champions Silksworth’s Jaxon McKenna & David Bolt got off to a winning title defence beating Lyndhurst’s Paul Langley 19-10. Bolt also made a winning start to his county triples title beating Dairy Lane’s Ken Briscoe 16-12.
In the women’s county triples New Herrington’s Linda Watson booked a quarter final spot with a 17-10 win over Lyndhurst’s L Dodsworth, the New Herrington triple are at home to Newton Halls Christine Budd.
The various Bowls England competitions are progressing, in the over 60’s singles Marine’s Richie Mckie beat North Biddicks Robert Johnson 21-11, in the pairs Silksworth’s Jon Bennett eased past Jarrow’s Geoff Smith and will host Elm Tree’s Thomas McEwan next.
Round two of the BE Double fours takes place on Sunday, locally Dairy Lane A head to Stockton West End, Dairy Lane B host Darlington Woodlands, New Herrington tackle Roker Marine and Silksworth Pumas host Jarrow West End.
In the BE Champion of Champions New Herrington’s Colin Watson was beaten 21-7 at Spennymoor by Neil Tallentire, that win sets up a clash with Dairy Lane’s Steve Hanlon after the latter beat Jarrow’s Alan Hughes 21-20.
Silksworth Pumas Charlotte Williams and David Sykes were beaten in the Mixed Pairs 19-14 at Blackhall, there was better news for club mate James Sneller who beat Hunden’s Stuart Clarke 21-6 and will head to Darlington RA to face Abi Porter. In the Mixed Fours the Pumas Jaxon McKenna eased to a 21-3 win over Hunden’s Iain Prentice.
In the BE Family Pairs Marines Pat & Peter Thomson beat White le Head’s Robin Scudder 17-7. That win sets up a trip to Silksworth to tackle Layton and David Sykes, the latter beat Jarrow’s Sharon Tennet 18-14. New Herrington’s Gary Wallace also booked a second round tie against Darlington RA’s Alex Wood, Wallace beat Darlington Woodland’s Steven Graham 20-8.
